Welcome to 2016 dear Capricorn! The New Year begins with the Sun in your sign, boosting and energising your personality. It's your personal solar year ahead, and marks an important time to visit what may be in store for you.
Lord of the Underworld Pluto remains in your 1st house, breaking down traditional structures about how one should look and define oneself. Expect a greater urge for self-improvement; it's a time to come out and show a different side to the character you have been labelled with. This is also the time to understand yourself and what motivates you. There's a new passion, appearance and appeal about you. Meanwhile, rebellious Uranus sets up signals for changes on the domestic scene, uprooting your comfort and security zone.
Karmic Connections
The Taskmaster, Saturn, your planetary ruler, remains in Sagittarius, your 12th house of secrets, sorrows and subconscious motivations. Saturn is opening up the vault to your secrets, fears and limitations during his cycle in your 12th house. The past is slowly fading away, along with childhood conditioning and circumstances that have held you back. You are leaving behind part of your baggage, but don't feel the guilt that comes with it. On the 23rd of January, Venus dances her way into your sign, your 1st house of personality. Sea-Goats will be in a happier frame of mind as conditions improve with Mercury going direct and the Full Moon in dramatic Leo, your 8th house. This will be a great time to increase your popularity, self-confidence, and social activity. Freshen up the wardrobe, create a new-image and attract love into your life. From January 29th to the 2nd of February, you might find yourself daydreaming about a romance, or just enjoying splendid surroundings with your love.
Mars Retrograde
This year the God of War turns retrograde on April 17th, which only happens once every two years and two months. A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac. Of course, the effect of each phase differs according to the sign concerned.
It's time for the Sea-Goat to show a more cautious side and take up another challenge. Mars will be retrograde in Sagittarius, your 12th house of secrets, sorrows and subconscious motivations, for some weeks before re-entering Scorpio on May 27th, your 11th house of friends, hopes and wishes. Mars then returns to direct motion on June 29th before re-entering Sagittarius on August 2nd. Although you'll be working in seclusion, it will give you time to redirect your energies and to move forward after August 22nd.
The first part of the Mars retrograde phase takes place in your 12th house from April 17th to May 26th. This will be the time to take refuge by working behind the scenes, going about unfinished business that doesn't draw too much on your physical strength. Frustration is likely to creep in while you wait for your circumstances to change. Your own anger can be caught up inside you and you'll question why. Health and work dilemmas may arise, along with doubts and concerns about other people, especially your partner should you have one. Secrets and fears that need your attention may surface. It will be a good time to sink back and observe what is going on around you. Build up your physical wellbeing, and expand your interests in psychology, spirituality and metaphysics.
The second part of the Mars retrograde phase occurs in your 11th house from May 27th up to August 2nd. You'll undergo a change of pace, working as a team player with friends, groups and associations. Old male friends may reappear, particularly if there has been a disagreement that needs to be settled. Love relationships will have another shot at building towards harmony, increased sexuality and perhaps making that commitment which was interrupted earlier in the year. You'll have tremendous energy, stamina and endurance while chasing those monumental moments of love and adventure. The values of other people, associations and love attractions will embed themselves in your mind. Mars goes direct on June 29th before re-entering your 12th house on August 2nd when you will undergo further self-evaluation and seek to be inwardly satisfied.
 Relationships: the Journey to the Heart 
From January 3rd to March 5th, Macho Mars campaigns in Scorpio your 11th house of friends, hopes and wishes. Your energy will turn to setting goals, co-operating and gaining support from friends. You'll naturally attract love relationships and having fun. Celebrations will happen in February.
Mercury is retrograde from April 28th to May 22nd in Taurus, your 5th house of romance, creativity and speculation. Take extra care with what you say in messages to your loved one or your children, as messages can be misconstrued. Don't allow misunderstandings to happen.
The New Moon in Cancer on July 4th is set to allow for a new direction in your relationships and partnerships. It will be important to talk about your needs, listen to your partner and make a few adjustments.
The Goddess Venus dances through your 7th house from June 17th to July 11th. This is a fabulous time to mend any rifts, bring harmony and make peace offerings. Some Caps may form a new relationship, make a commitment, or marry. Existing relationships will feel closer bonding and deeper love. July 9th to 11th brings a clash with authorities, and ego differences. Don't press to hard to control your relationship, even though the air needs to be cleared.
On November 11th, there's a Full Moon in Taurus, your 5th house. It's a Super Moon, so its effects will be potent. The sensual side of your nature is bound to be revealed, together with strong emotions towards loved ones.
Home and Family
Reformative Uranus remains in fiery Aries, your 4th house, and has been throwing a spanner into the works with domestic upheavals, potential changes of residence, and rebellious family members. You are undergoing your own deeper psychological changes, and if there have been problems with family relationships, they are bound to surface during this phase. Relationships could come to an abrupt end, and children may be moving out of home. As sparring partner Pluto sets up barriers, be flexible to the changes. They will allow you more freedom.
Mercury speeds into your 4th house on March 22nd, adding to the communication and contractual overload until April 4th. Disagreements will be rampant as Mercury joins up with Uranus. Discussions will surround real estate, possessions and property.
The Lunar Eclipse on March 23rd will have a dramatic effect on discussions with family members leading to arguments and bickering. Conditions on the domestic scene are likely to be dramatic.
The Goddess Venus descends into Aries from April 5th to April 29th which will enable compromises, settlements and harmony. This will be an ideal time to redecorate the home in traditional ways with antiques and adding something new.
Work and Health
The Sun moves into Gemini on May 20th, livening up the pace until June 19th in your 6th house of work and health. This is the time when you'll place more emphasis on the role you play in the workplace, and your relationship with work colleagues. Mental activities will revolve around efficiency, enhancing your performance, and running a hectic routine. Pay attention to your health, diet and exercise regimes. Venus also makes her way into your 6th house from May 24th to June 16th, which is generally a favourable time for gaining success and extra money for your efforts.
The New Moon in Gemini on June 5th will trigger major events, not only with lovely Venus, but by awakening a grand cross with Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune. Events could be out of your control, and will bring doubts and confusion about future career directions. Your partner's health may be of concern, and your beliefs could be challenged. Relationships and legal matters may be problematic. However, the Full Moon in Gemini on December 14th should be beneficial, adding a few more dollars to your pocket.
Career and Finances
Between January 20th and February 18th, the Sun moves through Aquarius, your 2nd house of personal earning, values and possessions. Start the year with bright ideas on budgeting for the year ahead. Look for ways to improve your earnings; cut back on non-essentials and meet your financial obligations. Compile a list of priorities, and develop a system whereby you can save money.
January 24th sees the Full Moon in proud Leo, your 8th house of sex, death and taxes. It will accentuate finances, investments and other people's money. It will also intensify deep feelings, together with emotional highs and lows. The question of joint accounts, property and possessions may arise, causing undue drama and control issues. Other areas include business partnership ventures, investments, superannuation, taxes and legacies. Decide to finalise small debts, categorise priorities and review long-term financial commitments. You'll be very perceptive and open to psychic phenomena, including interests in life after death and related mysteries.
March 23rd sees a Lunar Eclipse in Libra, your 10th house. This will pave the way for immense changes on the career front, ambitions, and life-path plans.
Fortunate Jupiter moves into Libra on September 9th, your 10th house. This important year-long transit will last until October 10th, 2017. During this time excellent opportunities arise for career advancement, gaining recognition and improving your public image. Luck is on your side! You'll also receive other benefits along the way, but refrain from big-noting yourself in your career capacity. You could even step into another profession, the law, travel, publications, or hospitality. Expect new beginnings with the New Moon in Libra on October 1st.
Mercury, the Cosmic Messenger, enters a retrograde phase for a brief period of some three weeks three times a year on average. This year, however, there are four retro phases for you to deal with. During these phases hiccups are likely to occur in communication, travel and transport. Misunderstandings, lack of information, phone and internet problems, along with breakdowns with appliances, machinery and component failure are all in the frame. This occurs thanks to inattention to detail, messages being unclear, or misreading the fine-print in documents. Fine-tune areas that need your attention; other people may be holding back on information that you are after, or has it simply been misplaced, even lost in the mail?
Ideas and plans put in place at the onset of a retrograde period are subject to delays, or being put on the backburner for another time. While Mercury is retrograde, a process of review can effectively resolve problems, more so when Mercury returns to direct motion through the zodiac. Not everyone suffers so much during a retrograde phase, due to Mercury's condition in the natal chart. For instance, should the Divine Messenger be retrograde at the time of birth, it can give you the flow of tidying up loose ends, clearing paperwork, and looking at areas that need your attention. Those with natal Mercury retrograde often do very well during these transiting retrograde periods. If that's you, remember that others may not be so fortunate.
It's important to double-check all arrangements for possible mistakes. Listen to what others have to say and make yourself clearly understood. If possible, hold off on major decisions and purchases, signing crucial documents, and making new verbal or written agreements. This year's Mercury retrograde phases are outlined below, giving you an insight into the year ahead:
January 5th – 25th, Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius, 2nd house
Mercury, the Cosmic Prankster, starts the year turning retrograde in Aquarius on the 5th, touching your 2nd house of personal earnings before re-entering Capricorn on the 9th, your 1st house of personality. You'll be eager to share your opinions, tell your story and engage in discussions. However, any ideas presented in December 2015 are likely to be held over, much to your dissatisfaction. This is the time to be rational and logical about decisions and plans. Go over the finer points of legal agreements, talks, and information that you receive. Clarify anything you don't understand to avoid disagreements further down the line. It may give some Caps a chance to reorganise activities and clear the deck of outstanding paperwork and writing. From the 21st to the end of the month, you may need to play down your deeper urges, in order to confront issues that arose from the 19th to the 22nd of December. From 31st of January to the 3rd of February, you need to slow down as irritations and disagreements are likely on the home front. This will revolve around property and family business. Watch out for problems with electrical and household appliances. Mercury goes direct again on January 25th, allowing you to press on with initial ideas. You should then see positive developments after the 15th of February.
April 28th – May 22nd, Mercury Retrograde in Taurus, 5th house
On April 28th, the Cosmic Prankster turns retrograde in Taurus, your 5th house. Although Mercury will be retrograde in your 5th house, you'll be actively involved in projects that allow your creative imagination to flow. Take more time to complete your inspirational notes, writing, and pieces of visual art. Intellectual games will need more concentration; children's activities and sports information may require more input from you. However, expect travel plans to be interrupted and issues with bookings, entertainment venues, and recreational fun. Mercury turns direct on May 22nd giving you the opportunity to continue with your ideas, with normality returning after June 8th.
August 30th – September 22nd, Mercury Retrograde in Virgo, 9th house
On August 30th, the Cosmic Prankster turns retrograde in your 9th house of the higher mind. Your interests will revolve around intellectual topics, advanced education, travel, new experiences and adventure. You'll be broadening your scope of knowledge, and perhaps taking on a new language. It's likely that you will meet transport delays, computer glitches, changes to travel plans, and cancellations. Your studies could be interrupted, or difficulties arise in settling law issues, publications and waiting to receive imported goods from overseas. Past hindrances and news may surface, leaving you totally confused about your responsibilities. However, opportunities and good news will present themselves in early September. Mercury turns direct on September 22nd, when you'll see progress, and be back on track with your plans after October 7th.
December 19th, 2016 – January 8th, 2017, Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn, 1st house
This will mark the last Mercury retrograde phase for the year, starting on December 19th emphasizing your 1st house once more. You'll no sooner get inspired to share your concepts with others when delays arise putting your ideas on hold. Discussions may revolve around travel plans, your ideals and beliefs. Agreements could do with another scan, particularly in business partnerships and relationships. You'll be highly intuitive and interested in psychic matters, creative thinking, and writing. Start clearing the decks and consider your personal goals for 2017. Mercury briefly re-enters Sagittarius on January 4th, 2017, before going direct on January 8th, then back into Capricorn on January 12th. From January 28th, decisions should be firmly in place.

A Full Moon and Penumbral Lunar Eclipse comes in Libra on March 23rd. This Lunar Eclipse will influence your 10th house of career and ambitions.
