Vedic Sidereal New Year: April 13, 2008
a rare and fortunate opportunity
The New Year in 2008, according to the Vedic Sidereal system occurs on April 13, 2008, which this year is Ram Navami, marking the burthday of the Hindu Avatar, Rama. It brings a very significant day when we are offered a rare and fortunate opportunity to clear past karma and begin a new phase of existence. The cosmic combination happens only once in a thousand years, according to Sri Dattreya Siva Baba, a noted vedic astrologer and guru.
As we have discussed before on this site, we use the tropical zodiac of the seasons, but Indian astrologers use the sidereal zodiac of the fixed stars. Now, according to Indian Vedic Astrology, the New Year starts when the Sun enters the first sign, Aries, the natural first house of the sidereal zodiac – and this year is a very potent, once-in-a-thousand year opportunity to shed old karma and to begin anew. We live in a star system where everything revolves around the Sun. Sidereal and Vedic astrologers believe that the life-supplying energy is at its maximum when the Sun is in sidereal Aries, between April 13 and May 14. Just as in our Tropical Astrology, Aries is the first sign in the Zodiac and represents the beginning. April 13 will therefore be a day of great significance, when great things can be achieved!
Mystics too are seeing that this particular Vedic New Year holds a special significance. Sri Dattatreya Siva Baba says:
"This Vedic new year is special and occurs once in 1000 years".

Maximum Power Brings Rare Opportunity
On April 13th as the Sun gains maximum power, it will come into alignment with the star grouping Pushya, a nakshatra, or asterism known as Gamma, Delta and Theta Cancri to Western astronomers. Many great spiritual masters have either ascended to heaven or taken incarnation on the Pushya vibration. It is a star of wisdom, evolution and enlightenment.
Dattatreya Siva Baba advises that this is rare opportunity to start a new life as the Sun shines bright on us. The Sun is happiness, health, prosperity and power. Lack of it is winter and depression. The Sun can do the following for you:
- Dispel your karma
- Dissolve mediocre life
- Give you power and energy
- Make your eyes and the heart work better
Sun Worship Has Benefits!
The Sun is not just a celestial object – it is also a star. The Sun is the vehicle for a supreme God. All ancient civilizations: Egyptian, Mayan, Greek, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, Indian etc., tapped into the power of the Sun God.
Sun worship has become extinct in most cultures, except Japan and India. The understanding of the Sun God in India is profound. Dattatreya Siva Baba strongly encourages performing fire rituals for the Sun God on April 13th. There is the added power of April 13th being a Sunday, the day of the week dedicated to the Sun.
Baba says: "The primordial and powerful act, if there is one like that, it is the fire ritual. If you have a lot of work to do for the day and although the tasks may be very important and pressing, (you should) give importance to the performance of fire-ritual. It is this primordial act that can bring you "fruits" without fail. Fire ritual is a divine technology. It is all about feeding. You can feed animals, humans, and Gods. Feeding Gods must come first." Astroved has arranged for a group Sun Fire ritual at the Sun Vortex temple. Click here for Vedic New Year remedies.
Fire Ritual in the Bhagavad-Gita
In the third chapter of the Bhagavad-Gita there is a story about the origin of the fire ritual. The fire ritual was co-created with the human beings. The human beings were told to co-exist with Gods who are in Heaven. The human beings would contact the Gods through the fire ritual. In the fire ritual itself you invoke angels and divine beings like Siva, Lakshmi, Kubera, and feed them with ghee, rice, fruits, etc. The Gods accept these offerings and thrive on them. The more you feed them, the more powerful they become. Being satisfied with your service, they intervene and bring in what it is you desire.
Cosmic Sun Vortex (Keela Surya Moolai Temple)
The cosmic Sun vortex is a small geographical location where the energy of millions of Suns in the galaxy emanate. It is interesting to know that the siddhas perceived the millions of Suns in the universe and still concluded that the earth plane controlled those Suns, even though they are millions of light years apart. The Siddhas claimed that the Suns in the galaxy visit this place on a daily basis to receive energy for their sustenance. Thanks to Sri Venkataraman Swami, the living Siddha of the Agastiya tradition, for revealing the secrets of this unique Sun vortex.
