The Festival of Goodwill
a major lunar festivity [part 2]

Full Moon Festival Malvin Artley, astrologer and leading occultist, concludes his discussion in this the second part of the article of the lunar festivity known as the Festival of Goodwill, or the Festival of Humanity.

The last major planetary pattern to emerge from this figure is a square between a Mars/Uranus conjunction and a Mercury/Venus/North Node conjunction. This volatile and challenging configuration is perhaps the main saving force in the entire horoscope because it will force issues and command that correct choices be made. Mars and Uranus conjoined is a force to be closely watched in any horoscope, and no less so in this one. It creates a hair-trigger temper at times. The fact this pair is squared to Mercury and Venus points to the fact that sensitivities will be ignored at times and that impulse will periodically overcome manners and decorum, to put it mildly and diplomatically. Mercury and Venus rule this lunar festival by ruling Gemini. This aspect, along with the Sun/Moon/Pluto array will ensure that no stone is left unturned in the quest for proper relationships between people, groups and nations. The trine from Saturn to Mars will ensure that cooler heads will prevail and that energies will eventually be properly channeled to their desired ends. Saturn also trines Uranus here and that brings about a building in of new structures in line with divine Will. It will be a very testing and "exciting" time on the world stage this year as our relationships and illusions about things get straightened out.

There will also be many grievances between men and women this year brought forward for resolution. This also highlights the fact that women need to play a much stronger and more central role in decision-making processes and policy-making fields than has hitherto been the case. This is indicated by the square between Venus and Mars. The tendency will be for the male energies to try to over-run the female side of things. We are speaking in social terms here, but it will work out in personal arenas as well. The old patriarchal ways of doing things will increasingly be called to account in many areas. The sad fact is that what passes for patriarchy in most cases has actually little to do with men and much more to do with unresolved boyhoods. Truly well-balanced men do not behave in the way that most governing structures work in the world today. Much of the office and bureaucratic machinations in the world are actually childish and are more about power and holding on to it than they are about true governance, management and good human relations. This male/female conflict will also have its reflection in the inner life of each person as we seek to resolve many of the old stereotypes and sexual conditionings of the past.

The symbols for the Sun and Moon degrees in this figure are quite stunning. They are appropriate for the times and give some wonderful insights as to what can be expected for humanity in the coming year. The degree of the Sun sets the tone for the entire figure and the essential energy for it. That degree reads thus:

"Three fledglings in a nest high in a tree."

The Moon represents that upon which we reflect and upon the past circumstances which have brought us all to this point in human history. It reads thus:

"A bluebird perched on the gate of a cottage."

Birds have a special place in the etiology of human symbolism. They remind us that we can soar above our limitations if we apply ourselves, that we can move closer to God and look out upon the expanse of our existence and see a greater picture when we make the due application, that we do not have to be bound to Earth, that we can sing the joyous songs of life just because we are and for no other reason, that we can move as one in a group when we move in united purpose--and all without effort when we forget ourselves, that the colors of our raiment are as pleasing to others as they are to the Angels who gave them to us and, most of all, that we are all angelic in our true Essence and that our lives take to wing when we express that in fullness.

The three fledglings in the nest bring many triplicities in life to mind. But, to me, this expresses the three divine aspects within all of us waiting to take flight on these outer planes of human existence, especially in these testing and trying days of spiritual opportunity. This world needs us all to take that first leap off into the unknown and to test our newfound freedoms and capacities in the vastness and richness of human life. We never fly if we never try. It is like the old aphorism:"Begin, then continue". And, if we do not do our utmost and take to our new wings then the world will never be blessed with the beauty of our Being and the songs of our hearts.

As for the bluebird, it is my sincerest and most heart-felt wish that all happiness and joy will come to us and the world at large. Every day the Soul serenades us at the gate if we care to take the time and listen. Every day the cottage gate stands ready to swing open into life more abundant and to likewise let people into our own lighted house. Let us all rediscover and expand our communities and be happy within them. So, in the words of a popular song, "come down off your fences and open the gate. It may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you. You'd better let somebody love you before it's too late." -- from "Desperado", by the Eagles (a song about the human condition).

Of course, it's never too late, but there is no time like the present, either. My gate is always open when there is a song to be shared. I hope to see you all there--or maybe at yours!

All peace and joy be to you,
Malvin.
