2009: Year of the Ox [part 2]
Your Year Ahead

Richard Giles presents his Chinese horoscope forecast for the Year of the Ox in 2009. He looks down the timeline for all of the Chinese Zodiac Animals and gives the flavour of the year for each one. And you can calculate your Zodiac Animal with our free on line calculator!

What's in store for each of the twelve animal signs in 2009? Is it a good year for you, or a quiet one?

Every sign is made up of elemental influences, some fortunate and some challenged by the Ox. The animal sign which is most disadvantaged this year is the Sheep (Goat) who is placed directly opposite and is said to clash with the Ox. A clash usually brings about unrest, accidents, movement, or changes. People born in the Sheep year can anticipate travel or movement such as changing jobs or moving houses. If you are a Sheep, carry the pendant of a Rat as protection to move away that difficult Ox energy. For Sheep people, the clash with the Ox can bring accidents related to any Earth element movements, such as landslides, building collapses, traffic accidents, and injury in earth sports such as skiing, car racing, rock climbing etc. For people who clash with this year, it's definitely not recommended for them to go mountain climbing.

Please bear in mind that the Chinese year begins in February

Other animal signs facing unfavourable energies are the Ox and the Dog. A Dog in an Ox year is part of what's called the Three Penalties. These penalties can bring disharmony, irritation, worry and frustration, as well as illness, especially when the Sheep person is working with Dog and Ox born people.

The animals combining well with the Ox year are the Rat, Snake, and Rooster. These animals are much more in a year of harmony. Note that this animal astrology is not a totally reliable system for forecasts, as it can be too generalised. For more reliable assessment of this year, it's recommended you check the full Chinese astrology called the Four Pillars of Destiny, which requires the full birth date details of the Year, Month, Day and Hour of birth (see www.FourPillars.net).

The Year Ahead for Each Zodiac Animal!

THE OX (Earth):
(1913, '25, '37, '49, '61, '73, '85, '97, 2009)

Generally, this should be an average year for the Ox. Some Oxen will have to watch out this time, because an Earth Ox year can be a very unfavourable element, although the strong Water, Wood and Fire Ox will do much better. The Metal Ox natives will have challenges and can only deal with the year well if they use all their resolve.

THE TIGER (Wood):
(1914, '26, '38, '50, '62, '74, '86, '98, 2010)

This is the year for keeping a low profile, Tigers. Because of the slow pace of the Ox year, it will be a frustrating time for you. You like things to be moving more quickly, so you will need to show restraint. Some Tigers will do well with money this year, especially the strong Wood Tiger.

THE RABBIT (Wood):
(1915, '27, '39, 51, '63, '75, '87, '99, 2011)

The year of the Ox is well suited to that Rabbit nature. The slower pace of this year will see you spending more time with friends and family. A good year for renovating your home, or for buying or selling or just looking at a new house. People born in the year of the Dog or Dragon can help you this year. You may experience differences with people of the Rooster or Rat years.

THE DRAGON (Earth):
(1904, '16, '28, '40, '52, '64, '76, '88, 2000)

In business and in romance your word for this year is integrity. Keep your head down and you will make steady progress this year. Established relationships will be comfortable and easy during this year of the Ox. There is slow but sure progress to be made. You can get help from the Rat, Rooster, and Monkey people.

THE SNAKE (Fire):
(1905, '17, '29, '41, '53, '65, '77, '89, 2001)

As the Snake and Ox have a good affiliation with each other it's a good year for Snakes. The steady pace of the Ox year is well suited to you. Act on an opportunity – this is your year and the Ox will assist you. You can expect things to move more smoothly on your creative side and in love for this year. Good relationships between you and Roosters or Oxen will help.

THE HORSE (Fire):
(1906, '18, '30, '42, '54, '66, '78, '90, 2002)

Although you are raring to leap ahead, this can be a year of caution for the Horse. It's not the best year to strike out in any new directions, but it's better to consolidate yourself instead. On the bright side, love will bring you comfort and support this year. You can get help and friendship from the Sheep, Tiger, and Dog this year.

THE SHEEP (Earth):
(1907, '19, '31, '43, '55, '67, '79, '91, 2003)

The Ox is the direct opposite of the Sheep, therefore you can expect challenges in all areas this year. Keep a low profile. As you can expect difficulties this year, I suggest you wear a pendant of the Rat to support you in 2009. You can rely on good relationships and help from the Rabbit, the Horse, or Pig this year.

THE MONKEY (Metal):
(1908, '20, '32, '44, '56, '68, '80, '92, 2004)

This is a year of reasonable progress for Monkeys. Work will slow down this year, allowing the Monkey more personal time. It also allows for quality time with friends and family. You'll find that a relationship will develop with Dragon or Rat year people that will benefit you.

THE ROOSTER (Metal):
(1909, '21, '33, '45, '57, '69, '81, '93, 2005)

Great opportunities for the Rooster this year, as you're well supported by the Ox. It's a good time to recoup any losses from the past. You can make great progress in your career, reaping rewards for your labour. Your close emotional ties bring joy. Your prestige and your reputation will improve.

THE DOG (Earth):
(1910, '22, '34, '46, '58, '70, '82, '94, 2006)

Another year for Dogs to keep a low profile. Put more attention into matters at home, spending quality time with loved ones. You'll find that the simple pleasures will bring you more happiness this year, such as gardens and family fun. Note you may have conflicts with the Dragon or Rooster.

THE PIG (Water):
(1911, '23, '35, '47, '59, '71, '83, '95, 2007)

This is a hopeful year for the Pig, a year to follow your instinct, laying a good foundation for the future. Do not take any unnecessary risks though. You may experience differences with people born in the Snake and Monkey years.

THE RAT (Water):
(1912, '24, '36, '48, '60, '72, '84, '96, 2008)

This is a stable year for family life and will be a joyful year. Careerwise the Rat will take on more responsibilities and will feel the pressure of extra work. Perhaps a leadership role will emerge. It's a good year of steady progress, as you are favoured by the Ox. Look for assistance from other Rats, as well as Dragon and Monkey born years. You may clash with Horse people.

Every Chinese animal sign is different and it's important to remember that with each animal year there can be one of five different elemental combinations (with the Five Elements). As an example, there are Fire Ox years, Earth Ox, Metal Ox, Water Ox and Wood Ox years. Each of those elemental combinations mean you'll react differently to the year depending on what elements are in play for you in 2009. If your element clashes with Earth, you may have a tougher, more challenging or testing year. It doesn't mean you won't be successful – the challenge may be just what you need to make it work.

Thank you, best of success and Good Luck for the double Ox year of 2009!
